What is Power Block?
|
At English Landing Elementary, we use a Three Tiered Model approach in providing interventions to all students. This Tiered model allows us to provide the most struggling students with the most intensive interventions while still providing additional supports to all students. At the beginning of the school year, all students will be assessed using assessments which may include Running Records, STAR, Acuity as well as teacher observations. Once this information is collected (usually by the end ofSeptember), grade level teams will collaboratively plan a daily 40-50 minute intervention block of time, known as Power Block. All students will be assigned to an intervention block which may include reading, writing, math, handwriting, social skills, and enrichment depending on student needs at each grade level.
All classroom teachers and as many specialists available during each grade level's designated time will be assigned to teach one or two sessions during this 40-50 minute period. Teachers will continually review the Power Block and make changes as they are needed. The classroom teacher will contact parents when changes are being made, so that we may continue our partnership of working closely with our families.
