Fluency
The Dolch List contains words that must be quickly recognized in order to have reading fluency. Most Dolch words can't be sounded out by students. The Dolch Words make up 50-70 percent of any text and are the most frequently used words in the English language.
Sight Word Phrases

Highlighting PhrasesThis can be done by using a highlighter to highlight phrases on a photocopy of a storybook page (or a highlighted word doc.). The reading teacher then models the reading by reading each phrase and using the appropriate expression. The student then reads by following the expert reader's example.

Teacher reads text aloud as students read along ignoring errors to keep pace with teacher. The focus is on expression and fluency with this technique. The student is learning to use the rhythm of our language.
